The artist

Biographical Notice

I was born and grew up in Quebec City. I have kept from this origin a nostalgia for the great river (the Saint Lawrence) and a lasting impression of long snowy winters.

It was already a door open on the north, the mysterious north, which fascinated and inspired me. I studied literature at Laval University and taught French literature in the United States and then in Rivière-du-Loup (a return to the river) and in Saguenay (the near North).

After a return to studies at the University of Montreal, I settled in the Outaouais where I taught at the community college (cégep) until 2003. At that time, I decided to stop teaching and to dedicate myself full time to my primary interests: writing and painting.

I soon published four books and began to participate in literary presentations and readings, a welcome change form the pedagogical focus in teaching. I also hosted and helped to organise a series of literary cafés with invited authors in collaboration with the Gatineau library and the authors’ association. At the same time I produced the recent series of paintings described on this site.

My complete curriculum vitae can be read under the rubric L’artiste in the French section of the site.
